Scene in San Francisco

Our extensive concert-going earned us a spot in the SF Station music pages (kind of the hipster equivalent of the newpaper's society page) when a photographer caught us off guard after a Viva Voce show last weekend at the Rickshaw Stop.

Viva Voce:

So far, the new music of 2009 is exceeding all my expectations (and it's only March!), so it should be another fruitful year for concert-going.

I Spy A Spire

Here's an art installation I can get behind. I'm a big fan of Andy Goldsworthy, the quirky British nature artist who creates ephemeral sculptures from icicles, twigs in the forest, leaves in a stream, etc., so when I heard he had done something in San Francisco's Presidio, I had to check it out. The work, entitled "Spire," was made from trees felled during a routine reforestation in the park. New trees were planted around this 100-foot sculpture which the artist foresees being gradually engulfed by the emergent forest.
Sunny skies made it a perfect road test for the awesome Nikon SLR camera Jim gave me for my birthday. It's a great camera and I'm excited to learn how to use it to its full potential. One important lesson learned already, check lens for specks!
